Break the habit -Lose Weight

Do you watch TV at night and automatically want a bowl of chips (or worse in my case a bag!) or a bowl of ice cream. Maybe it is snacking while making dinner. Another habit I loved was sitting down with a good book and eating doritos. So much of what interferes with our weightloss is based on habit vs need. The problem is how do we break these habits? Change it up. Make a rule- only eat in the kitchen or on the patio. If you want a snack at night, sit down and eat it in the kitchen. If you really love eating and watching TV and don't want to give it up then make a rule it can only be certain things ie fiber 1 cereal, sugar free jello, carrot sticks, apple. Make that your habit. My grandfather used to have the habit of eating and apple and cereal every night watching TV. He was skinny. GOOD LUCK!

Travelling and Maintaining Weight loss

I travel for work. That can mean alot of eating out at restaurants and that can cause havoc with my weight. So now I pack a cooler and take it with me. Yogurt, low fat pudding for snacks, sugar free jellow, hard boiled eggs, raisins, granola bars etc. I always ask the hotel for a fridge in the room. If I have to I say it is for medication. It works. Now I get up in the morning and workout. It saves me time because I eat breakfast in my room. protein shake, yogurt, bran crispbread.
I have snacks at night. I am keeping my routine very similar to my routine at home. As far as restaurants go I check the nutritional information online and chose my meal in advance. If I can't do that I chose grilled meat (chicken, fish, beef)-hold the sauce, salad-dressing on the side, soup-no cream based. So far so good!!!!

Diet Soda: Weight Loss Disaster??

I used to drink lots of diet coke. I really loved it. I stopped as part of my lifestyle change. One of the key things that I believe is that the sweetness of it just made me want more sugary food- see previous post on gummi bears. Sugar and carbs are my weakness. I also believe it can't be good drinking out of aluminum cans. I know this is a controversial subject but here is an interesting article published today on MSN: http://health.msn.com/nutrition/arti...6887&GT1=31036

Another study http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20050613/drink-more-diet-soda-gain-more-weight links drinking diet soda with a 41% increased risk of obesity. Regular soda also increase your risk by just over 30%. Glad I stopped drinking it. I must admit I still occassionally order it in restaurants but it is not a 3x/day habit anymore!!!!

Responsibility of the Gym for anorexic client

I felt like I had to speak with the fitness instructor at the gym and bring the issue of the women with anorexia forward. If she can't help herself maybe being banned from cardio exercise would shake some sense into her. So I spoke up. Apparently there is nothing much they can do. They tried to revoke her membership once before and she made it a human rights, discrimination issue. I can't believe it, we are being forced to watch someone kill themselves. I am sure if she died the gym could just as easily be sued for allowing it to happen. What a crazy world!!!

Tips and Tricks for Maintaining Weightloss

So far so good, I have been maintaining my weight. I remain committed to my exercise routine. But I worry how can I make sure I don't slip. Change up my exercise routine so I don't get bored- running, elliptical, swimming, weights, rowing, biking. Yesterday I went for a 50 min kayak, I would have gone further but a storm was racing in. I think the key is to set goals. This is how I lost the weight. I set a goal and broke it down into bit sized pieces (it always comes back to food) Commit to running a race. I am going to commit to running in a 10 k race. I am a bit frightened. I really enjoy running and want to keep it that way- I hope this is not too much. Amazing the level of insecurity I can still have after having lost 140 lbs!!! Anyway I always wondered why do people compete in 5k, 10K, half Marathons and Triathlons. Some people are obviously competitive by nature, but there are alot of ordinary people in these races. Maybe committing to these races keeps them committed to training? Heading out to run 7K!

getting addicted to Allan's Gummi Bears

oh,oh. I bought a bag of Allan's Gummi Bears from Costco as treats for the kids. I don't even like gummi bears. But these gummi bears are gooood... I find that I am sliding into an old habit with these bears. The positive is that I am recognizing it. I think the reality is I am a sugar addict- it gives me a burst of energy without exercising. Not good! Sorry Allan's I won't be buying anymore gummi bears I can't control myself

Started Running Again and 10 extra min of sleep

Okay so it has been about two months since my hip injury in Florida and my hips feel good so I have decided to take up running again. On days when I have limited time in the morning running is a great option, get dressed and head out the door. I can save about 10 min versus going to the gym!! I know it doesn't seem like alot but that is 10 extra min of sleep. That is a huge win. Bought new running shoes, have my ipod and I'm all set!!
